Transformative Orthopedic and pelvic floor physical therapy for your active life.

About Dr. Kristen Lund

Dr. Kristen Lund is a physical therapist and founder of In Bloom Physio, LLC. She earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2017 from the University of Evansville, where she received the Outstanding Physical Therapist Award for her graduating class. Kristen is also a graduate of Evidence in Motion’s Orthopedic Residency, a postgraduate program focused on evidence-based practice, advanced clinical reasoning, and manual therapy skills. She holds board certification as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, a designation held by less than 10 percent of practicing physical therapists.

Kristen, a former dancer, started her career with a focus on performing arts medicine. In her final semester of graduate school, she was selected for a prestigious performing arts clinical rotation in the greater Chicago area, where she worked with professional dancers from the Joffrey Ballet and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. She is passionate about treating performing artists and athletes of all ages and skill levels to help them decrease pain and reach their goals.

In recent years, after becoming a mother and struggling to return to the levels of physical activity she previously enjoyed, Kristen identified a need in the Bloomington community for physical therapists with advanced knowledge of orthopedics and sports medicine as well as women’s health. She set out to bridge the gap between these two fields of practice and broadened her focus to care for active women throughout the lifespan. She has completed continuing education on topics related to the female athlete, including pregnancy and postpartum care and pelvic floor rehabilitation, through organizations including Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute and the Institute for Clinical Excellence. In January 2024, she transitioned to private practice as the founder of In Bloom Physio, LLC.

A native of Columbus, Indiana, Kristen is a rare Bloomington transplant without an IU affiliation. Outside the clinic, she enjoys reading and lively book club discussions (fun fact: she holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and worked as a writer and editor before changing careers to become a physical therapist), running, enjoying the local performing arts culture, and spending time with her husband and two young daughters.

Feel better, move well, live life in full bloom.

FAQs

  • No referral is necessary for physical therapy! Indiana law allows physical therapists to evaluate and treat patients for up to 6 weeks (42 days) without a referral from a physician or other healthcare provider. By choosing direct access, you can save both time and money, as this eliminates the traditional process of waiting for an appointment and requesting a referral. Our experienced physical therapist will assess and address your orthopedic and pelvic health concerns promptly, providing personalized care tailored to your needs. This streamlined approach not only accelerates your journey to recovery but also empowers you to take an active role in your well-being from the onset.

  • In Bloom Physio is an out-of-network provider (also known as private pay or fee for service). We chose this practice model to provide you with the highest quality of care while saving you time and money. Insurance companies commonly restrict the number of visits, types of treatment, and length of appointments for physical therapy, while providing low reimbursement. If you’ve ever attended PT at a traditional in-network clinic, you know what this looks like in practice: sharing your PT with several other patients, spending most of your session exercising with an unlicensed aide or tech, and discussing your private health concerns in a busy, noisy space.

At In Bloom Physio, we believe in doing things differently. We believe in providing one-on-one care where you spend your whole session with your physical therapist and see the same provider every time, which allows for better continuity of care and tracking of progress as you work toward your goals. We believe in building relationships and providing compassionate care in a calm, healing space. We believe in integrity and transparency – no surprise bills weeks or months into treatment, just a plan that’s developed in your best interest and agreed upon by you and your physical therapist.

Furthermore, seeing an out-of-network provider can save you time and money. We see most patients once a week, as one-on-one care with a Doctor of Physical Therapy will allow you to accomplish more in less time than you might at an in-network clinic, where patients are usually seen for 2-3 appointments each week and spend much of their time with techs or aides. In Bloom Physio charges a flat rate per session, whereas with insurance, you may pay the full billed amount until you reach your deductible. This is often higher per session than what you’d pay out of pocket anyway!

Payment is due in full at each session and can be made via credit/debit card (including HSA/FSA cards) or check. Upon request, we can provide a superbill you may submit to your insurance company to apply toward your deductible or for possible reimbursement, depending on your plan and benefits.

Evaluation: 50-75 minutes depending on complexity (to be discussed with therapist during free discovery call) $125-$185

    Office Visit (50 minutes): $125

  • Your experience at In Bloom Physio begins with a free 15-minute discovery call to explore how our expertise aligns with your unique needs and goals. This no-obligation conversation gives you the opportunity to discuss your current concerns, ask questions, and determine if we’re the right fit for your health and wellness journey.

Paperwork will be completed online in advance of your first appointment so we can spend our entire time together focused on you. When you arrive for your initial evaluation, we’ll discuss your concerns that brought you to physical therapy, your medical history and overall health, and the goals you’d like us to help you accomplish. Then we’ll perform a thorough exam to assess the root cause of your issue. This may include a full-body movement assessment, examining individual joints and body regions, and/or internal pelvic floor muscle assessment, all with your informed written and verbal consent. Then we’ll discuss my findings and work together to establish a plan of care.

The number of sessions required to decrease pain and achieve your goals varies for everyone, but many patients and conditions improve significantly in 6-8 weeks. Between sessions, you have access to your physical therapist via phone, text, and email to speed along your healing even further.

  • We require a 24-hour notice to cancel a scheduled appointment. For cancellations less than 24 hours in advance, including “no shows,” a cancellation fee of 50% of your session cost will be charged to the card on file. We reserve the right to waive this policy at our sole discretion.

  • You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

    • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services.

    • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

    • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

    • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
